The subdued consumer sentiment has hit Tata Motors hard,which on Sunday reported nearly 39 per cent decline in November sales at 40,863 units,its lowest in at least three years.
The company had clocked a total sales,including exports,of 66,500 units in November,2012 and 76,823 units the same month in the previous year.
Tata Motors domestic sales in November this year slipped by over 40 per cent to 37,192 units compared to 62,354 units in November last year. Exports also declined to 3,671 units from 4,146 units a year earlier.
Sales of Nano,Indica and Indigo range were at 7,910 units,while sales of Sumo,Safari,Aria and Venture range sales were at 2,466 units.
Mahindra and Mahindra too reported a year-on-year decline in sales of 18 per cent for the month of November at 39,255 units and said it does not see any immediate turnaround unless some concrete measures are taken to revive the industry. The company,Indias leading sports utility vehicle (SUV) maker,had sold 48,143 units in the same month last year.
A 116 per cent rise in exports in November too was not enough for the company as domestic sales,which contributes lions share of its business. The domestic segment saw sales slumping by 22 per cent to 36,261 units against 46,755 vehicles in the same month last year.
Total sales of passenger vehicles,including Scorpio,XUV500,Xylo,Bolero and Verito,stood at 16,771 units during the month as against 24,604 in November last year,down 32 per cent.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported an increase in sales by a little over 12 per cent in November at 12,748 units.
The company had sold 11,357 units in the same month last year.
Domestic sales dipped slightly to 10,208 units in November this year as compared to 10,352 units in the same month last year. Toyota Kirloskar said it exported 2,540 units of the Etios series last month.
