Tarun Tejpal seeks in-camera bail hearing

A Ga court reserved the order for an in-camera bail hearing of Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal on Friday,after it heard the defence and prosecution. Of the reasons cited for an in-camera trial,one pertains to Tejpals request to explain the contradictions in the victims statement to the court.

Earlier,while moving for Tejpals bail,the defence had submitted two applications citing his presence in court,and another for the bail hearing to be in camera under provisions of CrPc section 327.

Arguing against an in-camera hearing,the prosecution told the court of Principal and Sessions Judge the privilege is available only to a victim and not to the accused. The court was also informed the section doesnt stand for bail hearing but only at the stage of inquiry and trial. The court will begin the hearing after it decides on the in-camera request.
