It might be easy to get Congress members out of the Congress, but getting the Congress out of Congress members is a different matter. Shortly after AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi reiterated his aversion to sycophancy at the recent national convention of Congress block and district Congress committees in Delhi, party leaders were at it,praising “Mother Sonia” and “Yuva Hriday ke Samrat Rahulji”. A delegate from Goa,however, beat them all, innovating a hit Bollywood number to proclaim from the dais,“Dil diya hai, jaan bhi denge, aye Soniaji aapke liye”. Exhorting everybody to sing along with him,he went on to a Bollywood classic: “Jeena yahan, marna yahan,Congress ke siva jaana kahan”. Even the “first-ever elected” Punjab Youth Congress president and the Uttaranchal NSUI chief, who were called to the dais by Rahul to share their experiences on organisational polls, made it evident whose vote really mattered. Much of their speeches were devoted to showering praises on Rahul.
