Five-year-old son of a scientist couple working at the DRDO labs in Pashan was allegedly abducted and murdered on Sunday night. The police have arrested a 19-year-old hotel management student and have detained a 15-year-old school boy,who allegedly hatched the plan for what police termed as quick money.
The police said the deceased Shubh Rawal was the son of Bhupender Rawal,a scientist at the DRDOs Armament research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and Sukeshini, who works at High Energy Material Research Laboratory.
On Sunday,Shubh was last seen playing at a Ganesh pandal near his house in Ramnagar ARDE quarters at around 9 pm.
The police have arrested Parmindar Singh,a student at a private hotel management institute and have detained his friend, who is an SSC student at an Army Public School. Police said their fathers are former defence personnel and are presently attached to the Defence Security Corps, which looks after the security of the these research institutes. Shubh was a student of a nursery school in Panchawati.
The police said Sukeshini returned home around 8.30 pm after a puja at nearby Ganesh pandal, and realised that Shubh was not home.
DCP Shahaji Umap said,His parents and neighbours started a search and our teams also joined them. We got to know about the kidnapping when the 15-year-old boy told the search team that Parmindar could have done it. Actually,he knew that Parmindar had taken the boy up the hill.
The police then went to Parmindars house and asked him where he had taken Shubh.
The police found Shubhs bat and his slippers on the way up the hill. His body was found at 11.45 pm.
Senior police inspector Ajay Kadam said,Parmindar has told us that he wanted to buy a bike and needed money. He got the idea of abducting a kid from a newspaper cutting. He then spoke to the 15-year-old suspect. The boy told Parmindar that Shubhs parents are well off. They decided to kidnap him. Though the plan had been hatched by both,it was executed by Parmindar.
