Stopped from gambling,UP cops go on rampage

Over 100 police constables,camping in Hathras area of Mahamaya Nagar district to be deployed on poll duty,went on a rampage damaging vehicles and staging a blockade on the Aligarh-Agra Road

Over 100 police constables,camping in Hathras area of Mahamaya Nagar district to be deployed on poll duty,went on a rampage damaging vehicles and staging a blockade on the Aligarh-Agra Road for over three hours following an altercation with Additional SP,Circle Officer,and a local SHO on Monday noon.

The ASP,CO and the SHO were allegedly attacked by the constables causing head injury to the CO.

Some 10 constables were reportedly caught gambling by the officials. One of the constables,who misbehaved with ASP Ashok Kumar,was allegedly slapped by the latter leading to the disturbance. The constables manhandled Kumar and the other two officers,and damaged Kumars official vehicle. The officers somehow managed to leave the place.

The constables then reached the National Highway-93 on Aligarh-Agra Road and started pelting stones at vehicles passing by.

Aligarh Range DIG B P Tripathi said the ASP has been transferred following the incident and the matter has been resolved. The constables have been sent to polling stations. The constables had come from Gonda and Bahraich districts.

Mahamaya Nagar SP has been asked to inquire into the exact reason behind the incident and identify constables responsible for the act,Tripathi added.
