Unidentified militants tossed a grenade at a bunker of the Central Reserve Police Force in downtown Srinagar this afternoon, injuring four security personnel and two area residents.

The militants carried out the attack at around 4 pm in the Saraf Kadal locality of the old city, where police and CRPF personnel had assembled to control a large group of protesters.

The civilians injured in the attack have been identified as Abdul Rehman Dar and Manzoor Ahmad Tramboo. All the six injured were taken to hospital where their condition was declared stable. CRPF spokesman Prabhakar Tripathi said,“Three of our jawans sustained splinter injuries in the grenade attack. We are trying to identify the militants responsible for the attack.”

Soon after Friday prayers, scattered protests and stone-pelting broke out in several localities downtown,to which the security forces responded with cane charges and teargas and smoke shells. Similar protests were reported from North Kashmir’s Baramulla town.
