Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday nominated Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah as leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the Andhra Assembly. By doing so,Sonia brought down the curtains on the issue of successor to the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who died in a helicopter crash more than two months ago.
A meeting of the state CLP was held on Friday which authorised the party president to settle the ticklish issue in the wake of Jagan-for-CM campaign by supporters of Jaganmohan Reddy,son of the late chief minister,who pressed the party high command to appoint the 37-year-old Kadapa MP in the top post. The meeting was held in the presence of Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and AICC in-charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh Veerappa Moily.
In accordance with the unanimous resolution of the CLP,Andhra Pradesh,AICC president is pleased to nominate K Rosaiah as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Andhra Pradesh, Moily said on Saturday. The announcement came after he and Mukherjee met Sonia here.
