Alleged Naxal sympathiser Soni Sori was admitted to AIIMS on Thursday after a medical board, including the heads of cardiology, gynaecology and endocrinology, was constituted as directed by the Supreme Court.
Sori was brought from Raipur on Wednesday and lodged in Hauz Khas police station for the night. After Sori alleged she was tortured and foreign objects were thrust in her genitals in police custody, the SC had directed AIIMS to examine and treat her.
At AIIMS,Sori complained of weakness and a burning sensation in her genitals. She has said that there was some bleeding from the genitals earlier due to the alleged injuries, but that has stopped in the last two days. But there is a burning sensation that is very disturbing, and she wants that to be immediately taken care of. The formal examination process is yet to begin, a hospital source said.
AIIMS spokesman Dr Y K Gupta said: A medical board has been constituted as per the SC orders, and the patient has been admitted. Her examination will be done as per the order.
Will probe AIIMS delay: Govt
Union Tribal Affairs Minister Kishore Chandra Deo Thursday said the Centre would inquire why AIIMS refused to admit Sori on Wednesday. He was responding after CPM MP T N Seema raised the issue in Rajya Sabha. AIIMS cited various reasons for not admitting her that medical board was not constituted and that she was produced after 4 pm… None of these reasons are convincing… when the SC has ordered AIIMS to admit, examine and treat her… on whose authority did AIIMS turn her away? Seema asked.
