The BJP on Sunday expelled former finance minister Raghavji from the party after a victim who had accused him of sodomy resurfaced and levelled other serious allegations against the veteran leader.
An FIR was registered late in the afternoon against Raghavji in the Habibganj Police Station where Rajkumar Dangi had unsuccessfully tried to register a case on Friday before disappearing.
The twin action against Raghavji, who turned 79 on Sunday, came on the eve of the Assemblys monsoon session. Before his expulsion,Raghavji had said that he would attend the session.
The decision in unjust. I am hurt. I should have been given an opportunity to explain, Raghavji said, adding that he has served the party for 55 long years.
State BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar said that the party expelled Raghavji because the complainant gave a detailed statement on Sunday. When the allegations were first made we thought it was someones imagination, he said.
Tomar, who announced the decision at a hurriedly called press conference, gave a clean chit to partys organisation secretary Arvind Menon against whom a woman has filed a complaint of sexual harassment. The complaint against Menon was filed two years ago and the State Human Rights Commission had asked for a report from the superintendent of police,Jabalpur. The commission has said that despite repeated reminders, the Jabalpur police were not sending a report. The woman had alleged that Menon exploited her over two years after promising to marry her. Tomar said that the allegations were completely baseless and the party was not giving any credence to the complaint.
The day of hectic politicking in the state capital began when Dangi surfaced at Leader of Opposition Ajay Singhs bungalow reiterating his allegations that the minister exploited him over last three years after promising him a government job,and threatened him with life if he talked about it to outsiders. Dangi alleged that Sher Singh Chouhan,a man who has been serving the minister for two decades, and his brother-in-law,exploited him too over two years. He also accused the minister of having illicit relations with a staffers wife and alleged that the veteran leader used to often demand young girls. The minister was pressurising me to get a bride, said Rajkumar Dangi.
Raghavji has denied the allegations and said that he would take legal action now that an FIR had been registered against him.
Dangi said he was in Bhopal for the last two days and decided to come out in the open after reading newspaper reports quoting his father and brother that he had lost mental balance and he was in the habit of levelling allegations.
Dangi accused a BJP MLA and the police pressuring his family members to give false statements. He admitted that Shiv Shankar Pateria, who was expelled from the BJP on Saturday after he admitted to orchestrating the sleaze CD,had supplied him a pen camera worth Rs 6,000,but accused him of betraying him.
Singh sought the resignation of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the ground that he tampered with the evidence.
