A short session of Parliament will be held from December 5 to December 20. The decision was taken Monday at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, presided by Defence Minister A K Antony.
Notwithstanding the fact that it would be a brief affair, the session may turn out to be historic, considering that it is expected to pass a Bill seeking to create a separate state of Telangana after a bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
The Winter Session normally lasts a month from the third week of November to the third week of December but it has been curtailed this time around due to the ongoing Assembly elections in the five states. The session will commence a day after the last round of polling. The two Houses will have not more than 12 sittings. Beginning on a Thursday,it will have four holidays on December 7,8,14 and 15.
