A short session of Parliament will be held from December 5 to December 20. The decision was taken Monday at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, presided by Defence Minister A K Antony.

Notwithstanding the fact that it would be a brief affair, the session may turn out to be historic, considering that it is expected to pass a Bill seeking to create a separate state of Telangana after a bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

The Winter Session normally lasts a month — from the third week of November to the third week of December — but it has been curtailed this time around due to the ongoing Assembly elections in the five states. The session will commence a day after the last round of polling. The two Houses will have not more than 12 sittings. Beginning on a Thursday,it will have four holidays — on December 7,8,14 and 15.
