On a day BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was in Delhi for a BJP meet,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit attacked his policies in Gujarat while claiming the Delhi model of development was a much better model.

Addressing a public rally in Nangloi on Sunday,Dikshit said the Congress government in Delhi had ensured prosperity and rapid urban development while enhancing employment for the youth. “You must elect a government that works. We are tried, tested and trusted,” Dikshit said.

According to Dikshit, quality of life and infrastructure in the national capital was praised across the world, while large parts of Gujarat still lacked basic amenities.

“The development model of Gujarat and Delhi cannot be compared at all. Delhi has ensured inclusive growth while in Gujarat,a large section of the society was deprived of various benefits. Ours is a much better development model than the Gujarat one,” Dikshit said.

The three-time CM also accused Modi of “dividing” communities to gain political mileage. “The much-hyped Gujarat development model has not been able to address malnutrition among a significant section of people in Gujarat,” Dikshit said. She added that the Congress government does not propagate and promote hatred and division like him.

Citing achievements of her government,Dikshit said Delhi now boasted of the highest per capita income.

“The city has 24 institutions of higher education, including six state-level universities commissioned by the Delhi Government. We provide monthly pension of up to Rs 1,500 to the aged, widows and physically challenged persons. Can any other state government say they have provided the same,” she asked.

She also asked people not to be carried away by the ‘false promises’ of the BJP and AAP.

Dikshit also referred to various steps taken to empower women in Delhi.

“Our government has provided reservation of 50 per cent seats in civic bodies for women. We were the first to do this in the country. We are tested, tried and trusted as our performance has been certified by people in the 2003 and 2008 elections. We are still committed to develop all parts of the capital city uniformly,” Dikshit said.
