The stage was set for the election of Sharad Yadav as the JD (U) president for a third time in a row as he filed nomination papers at the Jantar Mantar Road headquarters of the party on Tuesday. The polling is scheduled for April 14,but he being the sole candidate when the deadline for nominations expired on Tuesday, only a formal announcement awaits his election to the post.
Several confidantes of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, including state president Bashishth Narain Singh and Shivanand Tewari, both members of Rajya Sabha, were present when Yadav filed his nomination. Yadavs key associates,Rajya Sabha member K C Tyagi, general secretary Javed Raza and Gobind Yadav, were also there.
Yadav has already had two tenures as the president of the party, after being first elected to the post in place of George Fernandes in 2009.
