BJP MP from Bhagalpur and its Muslim face Shahnawaz Hussain has written to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister about the threat calls that he has been receiving from unknown callers,including some from Dubai,in recent weeks. In his letters to top government functionaries,dated July 2,the BJP leader has alleged that “the callers have threatened to eliminate him and his family members” and the “frequency of such calls has increased lately”.

The Muslim leader,who has been provided with Z category security,has also expressed fears that supporters of his rival and RJD leader Taslimuddin (who had contested polls in Kishanganj against Hussain in 1999 and 2004) “may be conspiring against him”.

One of Hussain’s close aides was recently shot at in Bhagalpur. While a confidential report prepared by the Bihar Government underlines the threat perception to the Muslim leader,Leader of Opposition L K Advani,too,wrote to the Home Minister when Hussain received threat calls from Dubai.
