Following multiple blasts at the Mahabodhi temple, security has been beefed up in Mumbai, with focus and security sweeps on sites of Buddhist significance. The police are vigilant as the Bihar blasts are suspected to have been in response to the recent communal violence in Myanmar. The same incident was used to incite riots at the Azad Maidan last August.
DCP (Detection) Ambadas Pote said several precautionary measures are being taken. We have not brought in any additional force but precautions are being taken by the Mumbai Police. All significant spots are being watched.
Meanwhile,DCP (Zone 5) Dhananjay Kulkarni said,Chaityabhoomi in Dadar has already been swept for explosives and other suspicious objects by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). We now have a squad of two officers and 25 constables at Chaityabhoomi who are frisking everyone before letting them inside.
The Buddhist Pagoda in Gorai was also swept by the BDDS on Sunday morning.
We have two officers and six constables, along with a police vehicle,in addition to the security deployed by the Pagoda trustees, said Senior Inspector Deepak Bagwe,Gorai police station.
