Pulling up former Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh for “Bench hunting” in a corruption case, the Supreme Court Friday said his conduct was unacceptable.

A Bench of Justices D K Jain and A R Dave took exception to the fact that the matter was first listed for Thursday, only to be deliberately withdrawn and again filed so that it could make its way to the list of case to be mentioned Friday. “We are very sorry. We are very sorry this cannot happen. This is nothing but Bench-hunting,” Justice Jain said.

Brushing aside pleas of urgency by the politician’s camp, the court directed for posting the matter on a notified date.

Kripashankar had sought stay or quashing of the Bombay High Court order for his prosecution under the Prevention of Corruption Act and attachment of his immovable properties in a case of alleged disproportionate assets.

The HC had also ordered a probe against Kripashankar’s wife, son and daughter-in-law.
