The Supreme Court Monday dismissed a plea by Marxist leader M M Mani to quash an order to further probe his alleged statement about the CPM having systematically annihilated political opponents in Idduki 30 years ago.
The court, however, issued a notice to the Kerala government on Manis petition challenging the legality of registration of a second FIR in the case.
The petition contended that registration of a second FIR was impermissible as all the accused had been acquitted by a court during 1985-86 and the HC had dismissed the appeal against acquittal.
Mani, who was Idukki district secretary of CPM,at a public meeting in Manakkad, had allegedly said the Marxist party had eliminated at least three of its political foes in the 1980s. A deeply embarrassed CPM had later removed him from the post.
