French President Nicolas Sarkozy seems to have a penchant for glamour — a year after marrying Italian supermodel Carla Bruni,he has picked an attractive television presenter to replace sacked Justice Minister Rachida Dati. In fact, the 39-year-old glamorous Christine Kelly has been handpicked by the flamboyant President as the new face of ethnic diversity in France, two months after 43-year-old Dati,a single mother, was removed from office.
Kelly is expected to become Minister for Overseas Territories in French Government in Sarkozy’s next reshuffle,an especially important role as many of the islands involved are currently suffering severe economic hardship and social unrest,The Daily Telegraph reported.
Sarkozy is hugely impressed that she is not only attractive, but in touch with the modern world. He is aware that Rachidas imminent disappearance will create a gaping hole, and is certain Christine will be the person to fill it.
Christine has a huge fan base thanks to her regular appearances in the media, and will be a massive asset, the leading British newspaper quoted an unnamed source in France’s governing party as saying.
Kelly, born on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe,is as well-known for appearing in bikinis as suits. At present she is a presenter on the French news channel LCI,a job she will have to give up if she accepts a role in Government. She recently wrote a book about the Arsenal and France footballer William Gallas. She has also penned a biography of France’s Prime Minister Francois Fillon. However, she has declined to comment on reports that she will join the French cabinet.
