The sister of Indian national Sarabjit Singh Friday termed the attack on him in a Lahore jail as a conspiracy” and said that she had “expressed fear” that he would be “attacked by the jail inmates who had been threatening him ever since Afzal Guru and Ajmal Kasab were hanged”. She said she had approached the Indian authorities but no action was taken.
“Sarabjit had told his counsel in Pakistan Awais Sheikh that inmates at Kot Lakhpat jail had threatened to kill him saying that his country had hanged Afzal Guru and Ajmal Kasab,” Dalbir Kaur said.
She rued that despite taking up the matter at the highest level,”unfortunately nobody bothered to save the life of my brother who is battling with death in hospital”.
I had taken up the matter of Sarabjit’s security in Pakistan with President,Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and others,” Kaur said adding “nobody was bothered.” “This is a conspiracy against my brother,” she said,adding she was informed about the attack on Sarabjit by a mediaperson from Pakistan.
She urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other leaders to direct the Indian High Commission to visit Sarabjit in hospital. She also requested them to arrange visas for her and her family so that they can visit him. With PTI
Prime suspect had quarrelled with him a few days earlier
Lahore,Islamabad: THE main suspect in the brutal attack Friday on Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh had quarrelled with him a few days ago but Pakistani authorities at Kot Lakhpat Jail did not bother to take notice of the incident,official sources said.
Death row prisoner Amer Aftab tried to attack Sarabjit a few days ago and abused him,the sources told PTI.
The reason for the altercation could not immediately be ascertained.
Earlier,unnamed officials of Kot Lakhpat Jail were quoted by Pakistani TV news channels as saying only two prisoners Amer Aftab and Mudassar were involved in the attack. Aftab,who was sentenced to death for murdering a mayors brother,was locked up after the attack and interrogated,sources said.
Malik Mubashir,Deputy Superintendent of Prisons in Punjab province,was appointed to head the inquiry into the brutal attack. PTI
