Sarabjit Singhs family members will return to India on Wednesday to seek advice on his treatment in the wake of a deterioration in his condition,Sarabjits lawyer Awais Sheikh said. Sarabjit Singh is in a comatose condition after being assaulted by inmates last week in a Pakistani jail.
Sheikh said Sarabjits sister Dalbir Kaur, wife Sukhpreet Kaur and two daughters would go back to India through the Wagah border crossing at 11 am on Wednesday. They plan to consult people in India on what to do next, he told PTI after visiting Sarabjit at Lahores Jinnah Hospital on Tuesday. The doctors told us there has been no improvement in his condition. They changed his medication but this had no effect, Sheikh said on phone from Lahore.
Earlier,Sheikh said Dalbir was asked by the local media if she had agreed to take Sarabjit off ventilator support and she had said no. Sheikh said he would petition the Lahore High Court on Wednesday to allow Indian doctors to come to Pakistan to assist in the treatment of Sarabjit.
Meanwhile,National Commission for Scheduled Castes vice-chairman Raj Kumar Verka Tuesday said he was in constant touch with Dalbir on the phone and she has alleged that the treatment of Sarabjit is not up to the mark. Verka said Dalbir told him that Pakistani authorities had backed out of their earlier promise and were not allowing her or other family members to stay with Sarabjit in the hospital.
Meanwhile,Indian members of an India-Pakistan judicial committee on prisoners on Tuesday visited Sarabjit. The committee, which is currently on a visit to Pakistani jails to check on the condition of Indian prisoners lodged there, has two retired judges each from India and Pakistan.
Retired judges A S Gill and M A Khan visited Sarabjit at Jinnah Hospital and inquired about his condition from doctors treating him.
