The special CBI court on Thursday awarded 7 years rigorous imprisonment to gangster Abu Salem in a fake passport case. Salem was arrested in Portugal in 2005 with a forged passport in a fictitious name that he had obtained from Kurnool district. He had procured the fake passport under the fictitious identity of Ramil Kamil Malik by submitting forged documents to the Hyderabad Regional Passport Office,in connivance with some government officials and private persons in 2001.
Salem was produced in the court when the judgment was to be pronounced and after the verdict he was taken back to jail in Mumbai.
