Russia,India set higher trade goal

The presidents of Russia and India have pledged to increase the volume of trade.

The presidents of Russia and India have pledged to increase the volume of trade between their huge nations to $10 billion next year.

Russia’s Dmitry Medvedev and India’s Pratibha Patil met in the Kremlin Thursday during Patil’s fist visit to Russia.

Patil lamented that India’s economy had focused too much on Western markets and consumers in the past.

Trade between Russian and India came to $7 billion in 2008,and Medvedev said it increased by 15 per cent in the first five months of this year despite the economic downturn.

The Indian president arrived Wednesday for a five-day visit.
