Rohtak: Arya Samaj members boycott ashram followers

The village has around a dozen houses owned by Rampals followers.

Karontha village in Haryanas Rohtak district that saw clashes earlier this month continues to be tense with the followers of Arya Samaj deciding to socially boycott families supporting Sant Rampal of the Satlok Ashram.

The village has around a dozen houses owned by Rampals followers.

The followers of Arya Samaj on Sunday cut their water supply and issued a diktat that nobody in the village will have any contact with the followers of Rampal of Satlok Ashram. A fortnight ago, followers of Arya Samaj, who are majority in the village, had tried to forcibly close the ashram. This had led to clashes between the police and protesters, leaving three dead and over 160 persons injured.

The police had managed to get Rampals followers out of the ashram and closed it down. However, the followers of Arya Samaj had demanded that the ashram be razed to ground. Rampal, who is facing a murder charge, has since taken refuge in his other ashram at Barwala in Hisar.

Police personnel are deployed in and around the village. Paramilitary force personnel continue to be deployed outside Satlok Ashram.
