The Ministry of Railways gave its nod to a CBI investigation into the role of S M Sharma,Chairman,Railway Recruitment Board,Mumbai,in the leakage of RRB examination question papers,CBI DIG,Hyderabad V V Lakshmi said.
Sharmas son Vivek Sharma is accused of selling question papers to at least 200 candidates for Rs 4 lakh each. The candidates had to pay Rs 50,000 before the exam and the rest after getting the appointment letter. As per the deal,Viveks agents would keep the candidates original certificates till they paid the entire amount.
CBI has so far arrested one agent Hyderabad-based Ashok Kumar while the rest are absconding,Narayana said.
He also said CBI had details of 200 candidates who had paid Rs 50,000 and deposited their certificates,but many more may have bought the papers. Candidates were given the papers a day before the examination and they took the test in Mumbai,Hyderabad and Nagpur.
