The West Bengal Human Rights Commission on Wednesday ordered a probe into the incident of an arrested SFI activist being chained in the hospital bed at a state-run hospital in Siliguri.
Taking suo motu cognizance of the media reports,the rights panel has asked IGP (North Bengal) Anuj Sharma to conduct the probe and submit the report within two weeks with the specific observation of the IGP,sources said.
Santosh Sahani,the first year BA student,was arrested on April 10 after a clash between TMC and CPM supporters in Siliguri. He was produced in the court the next day,but fell sick. After being released from hospital on Sunday,he was re-admitted to the North Bengal Medical College on Monday,where he was allegedly kept handcuffed for the first two hours. Later,his feet were allegedly tied to a bed.
