Panic-stricken relatives rushed to Howrah station minutes after the news of the accident. Ram Kumar Nagar was present at Howrah Station when his brother-in-law Asutosh Verma and sister-in-law Nitu boarded the S2 compartment of the train. “I helped them board the train,seat number 58 and 60 of S2 compartment. I have no clue about their well being,” said Nagar.

“A news channel mentioned my nephew A M Bhattacharya as one of the injured passengers. But the Railways authorities say they do not have information about him. Phone lines are not working,” said Abhijeet Banerjee,a resident of Shibpur.

Mukesh Singh went through the reservation list a number of times but could not find any information about his brother Suresh Singh along with his wife Sandhya and son Santosh. They had boarded the train without a confirmed ticket.

Sunil Maity was numb when officials asked in which compartment his daughter and son-in-law were travelling. “Their names are Rajkumar Ghora and Moumita Ghora,” he said.
