In a major blow to Maytas Infra, headed by B Teja Raju, son of Satyam chairman and founder B Ramalinga Raju, chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today asked the state chief secretary P Ramakanth Reddy to immediately evaluate and submit a report on the status of projects under execution by Maytas.
A consortium lead by Maytas Infra was awarded the prestigious Hyderabad Metro Rail Project in August last year and the CMs concerns seem to have arisen out of the Satyam debacle.
The CM has asked the chief secretary to find out the risks for successful and timely completion of projects under execution by Maytas, CMO officials confirmed.
Besides the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project,Maytas Infra is executing important projects like the Godavari drinking water supply scheme for Hyderabad,Machilipatnam Deep Water Port and several phases of the irrigation projects under the Jalayagnam programme.
However, the state government is more worried about the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project whose unique business model was initially hailed but came under scrutiny over its viability and Maytas ability to execute it. Besides, the government does not want the Machilipatnam Port and the Godavari water supply project to halt halfway because of problems in the Raju family.
