Their 16-year-old daughter was reportedly gangraped twice, the second time on her way back from the police station after filing a complaint, hounded by her alleged rapists and finally set on fire. Days after her death, her family has alleged that they are being hounded — by the police.

In a letter to West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan, the victim’s father has alleged that on Tuesday night,a police team including SP,North 24 Parganas,Tanmoy Roy Choudhury, raided their house and demanded her death certificate. Earlier on Tuesday, soon after her death, the police had sought to forcibly cremate her,but could not do so as they did not have the death certificate.

“For over three hours we were tormented. Some outsiders also arrived in the presence of the police and asked us to vacate our house immediately,” said the victim’s father. “Finally, they brought my daughter’s body to the house at 3 am on Wednesday, and asked us to accompany it to the crematorium… We refused to go out till dawn,” he said.

The father, who hails from Samastipur in Bihar but works as a taxi driver here, claimed that the police threatened them with eviction, and even warned them to leave West Bengal or face the consequences.

The family has taken shelter at the CITU head office in central Kolkata. “We are not going back there any more,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Bidhannagar Police said the victim was found to have been pregnant. The foetus and some tissues have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad for examination.

“We have not received the post-mortem report. But the doctors who performed the post-mortem handed over a foetus and some tissues to us for preservation. We have sent the foetus and the tissues to the CFSL for determination of its age,” said V S R Ananthnag,ACP,Airport.

“We will also collect the DNA samples of all the accused persons who are in jail and send them to the CFSL for DNA tests,” added Ananthnag.

The victim’s parents said they were unaware about the pregnancy. “The doctors treating her in R G Kar Hospital did not tell us anything about this. Earlier,at Barasat Hospital, the doctors told us that all kind of measures were take to abort any possible pregnancy,” said her father.

“I have not seen the medical reports. But the doctors from R G Kar Hospital have reported that they got a foetus after an autopsy was conducted,” said Sushanta Banerjee,Director of Medical Education.

Police have filed a murder case against two accused. The victim,in her dying statement,is reported to have said that the duo set her on fire.

Meanwhile,a Bihar Police team arrived in Kolkata on Thursday to seek a thorough probe into the case. The Bihar government has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the family.
