While BJPs chief campaigner Narendra Modi has used video conference to reach out to audiences across the US to spell out his version of the saffron partys vision for the country,party president Rajnath Singh is slated to travel to the US to explain the BJPs vision on Afghanistan in the wake of pullout by NATO forces from the region.
BJP presidents office on Tuesday revealed that Singh will visit New York and Washington DC between July 22 and 26 during which he will exchange notes with members of US think tanks and interact with members of the Indian American Chambers of Commerce and US-India Business Council.
Singh will deliver an address on India,Afghanistan and Regional Security in Washington DC where strategic experts from India,Pakistan and US will be in attendance. He had discussed the issue with the US Ambassador to India Nancy Powell when the latter called on him in March. Singh had also expressed his concern over the impending withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan during his presidential speech at partys national executive in Goa last month. After the withdrawal of US and NATO forces from Afghanistan in 2014,the situation in this region is going to become very grave for India… the interference of Pakistan and extremist forces in Afghanistan may increase. Has the Central government made any plan on the strategic scenario emerging in the region in future? Will our relation be limited to commercial level with Afghanistan or some strategic aspect would be added to it? Singh had said in his presidential address.
On Tuesday,Singh dubbed the UPAs hurry to provide food guarantee through an ordinance as a lollipop to reportedly bribe the electorate ahead of Lok Sabha elections. When the UPA came to power,it said that it will get the Food Bill passed within 100 days. But they are bringing it as a lollipop now after being in power for nine years when the polls are drawing near. This is a cruel joke on the poor. They think that they can purchase the conscience of electorate to get back to power, Singh said. He added that the food legislation will cost about three per cent of GDP annually and contrasted it with the claim that one per cent GDP expenditure could have provided jobs to over 35 lakh people.
