Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday urged the Supreme Court to take an expeditious decision on a plea filed by a former SP MLA accusing him of alleged abduction and rape of a girl in Amethi.
We are anxious to see that the matter is disposed of as early as possible. The issue is serious as there are allegations of illegal custody, senior advocate P P Rao,appearing for Rahul,told a Bench led by Justice B S Chauhan.
We understand,all of you have a lot to say in the matter, responded the Bench. It,however,had to adjourn the matter to next Monday since the Uttar Pradesh government failed to file its affidavit in response to former MLA Kishore Samrites claims that he had filed the petition against Rahul at the behest of Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. Senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi,appearing for the UP government,sought more time to file a reply.
Meanwhile,the court also issued notice to one Gajendra Pal Singh,on whose petition the Allahabad High Court had ordered a CBI inquiry against Samrite and imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh for the allegations against Rahul.
