A supervisor of the states Public Works Department was killed and seven labourers injured in a powerful explosion within the premises of a police station at Bani in Kathua district of J&K on Monday morning.
Bani Sub Divisional Magistrate Rajinder Sharma,said that the explosion took place when victims were shifting boxes containing dynamite from the police station. The PWD supervisor has been identified as Mohammad Iqbal.
Sharma confirmed that initial inputs gathered from the spot indicated that the tragedy struck when labourers tried to set one of the boxes on fire. However,one can arrive at some conclusion only after the detailed probe, Sharma added.
