Protesters enter Shinde house,142 arrested,13 cops suspended

Hundreds of protesters,mainly Jats,had gathered,demanding 27% reservation under OBC category.

The police have arrested 142 persons after protesters barged into the house of Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon. Thirteen police officials too have been suspended.

According to the police,hundreds of protesters,mainly Jats,had gathered outside the residence,Number 2,Krishna Menon Marg,demanding 27 per cent reservation under OBC category. The incident was reported at around 2:50 pm.

The police said protestors despite security cordon managed to barge in,broke the wooden panel and glass doors of the house. They also blocked roads,leading to traffic jam that lasted for over two hours in Central Delhi areas.

Late night on Wednesday,the police registered a case of rioting against the accused persons,obstructing a public servant on duty,unlawful assembly,assault or criminal force to deter public servant.

“We have suspended five policemen from New Delhi district. While one of them is a sub-inspector,four others are constables. Around 142 people were arrested and a case has been registered under sections 147,149,186,353 and 451 of the Indian Penal Code at Tughlaq Road police station,” said DCP (New Delhi),S B S Tyagi.

The other police officials to have been suspended were security,special branch and Rajasthan Armed Constabulary. An inquiry was also being conducted by the special branch.
