Kapurthala jail on Tuesday prohibited the entry of vehicles of those coming to visit SAD MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur and even banned them from bringing her fruits and other eatables.

The move followed an inquiry ordered by DGP (Prisons) Shashi Kant into Bibi Jagir Kaur — convicted for five years of rigorous imprisonment — being provided with LCD and DTH inside the jail. An IG-level officer will conduct the probe.

Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike and Akali MP Paramjit Kaur Gulshan met her on Tuesday. Other visitors were stopped at the main gate and asked to park their vehicles outside the jail. A sarpanch was involved in a minor scuffle with jail staff when his vehicle was not allowed to enter through the main gate. “We were not allowed to take some fruit inside for Bibiji,” said a follower of Dera Sant Muralewale, headed by Bibi.

Jail Superintendent S P Khanna said,“We have been following rules in case of all prisoners, including Bibi, and did not allow them to take eatables inside.”

Since she was sent to the jail last week,Bibi has been enjoying VIP treatment. She has her mobile phone inside the jail as also homemade food. On Monday, she was shifted to the jail’s hospital from the women’s cell.

Dal Khalsa has slammed the inquiry marked by the DGP (Prisons) as an eyewash, and demanded that either the Governor or Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court should take cognisance of the matter. Jail Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur has visited the prison to ensure that she is comfortable, alleged Pritpal Singh,Secretary for Human Rights,Dal Khalsa.
