Filmmaker Prakash Jha,currently shooting his film Rajniti,is all set to contest the Lok Sabha polls on a Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) ticket from West Champaran constituency in Bihar. LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan will announce Jhas candidature on Friday at a public meeting in Bettiah.
Jha had earlier announced his intention to contest the elections but the decision to join the LJP came as a surprise as Jha is known to be close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Sources said Jha wanted to contest the polls as a JD(U) candidate but Nitish expressed his helplessness to field him from the Champaran constituency as the seat belonged to JD(U) ally BJP as per the seat-sharing arrangement.
Talking over the phone from Bhopal,Jha said: I am confident of my victory even if I contest as an independent. On why he chose LJP,he refused to comment.
Jhas candidature from the West Champaran seat is also an indicator of an electoral pact between the LJP and RJD. In 2004,RJDs Raghunath Jha won the seat. LJP leaders said under seat-sharing pact, the RJD would contest from neighbouring Valmikinagar and leave West Champaran for the LJP. Formal talks will begin in March.
