Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to travel to the US in September for a bilateral visit, his second since Barack Obama became president.
Obama sent Singh an invitation to visit Washington through deputy secretary of state William Burns last week, sources said. The dates would be firmed up when secretary of state John Kerry visits next month.
Singhs bilateral visit could be clubbed with his tour to New York to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, the sources said. The prime ministers last bilateral visit to the US was in November 2009 during which the two countries signed a number of agreements.
Since then he has travelled to that country for the UN sessions and for the April 2010 Nuclear Security Summit in Washington.
