Asiad gold medallist athlete Pinki Pramanik on Sunday sought police protection and also filed a complaint of theft against the woman on whose allegation she was put behind bars.

“I have been out of my house for almost a month and when I returned I found many of my belongings missing. So,I have filed a complaint at the Baguihati police station and sought police protection,” Pramanik said.

“We have received a complaint of theft and Pramanik has named Anamika Acharya in the complaint. We are looking into the matter,” an officer of the Baguihati police station said.

Meanwhile,Pramanik hit out at the media, claiming her innocence. “She (Anamika) has made a false allegation but the media has projected her as a victim and has been targeting me. I feel threatened and insecure,” she said.

Incidentally, the athlete was arrested and subsequently remanded in judicial custody after her live-in partner brought rape charges against her. Pramanik was granted bail on July 10,after 26 days in prison. She maintained that she was framed and became a “victim of conspiracy”.
