Cellphone calls made from Koregaon Park area on the day of the German Bakery blast are being analysed by the police. Pune police commissioner Satyapal Singh said on Thursday the CCTV footage from cameras in the nearby hotel had given some good clues about the blast.
According to sources, the footage had shown two men entering the eatery, one carrying a red haversack and the other speaking on his cellphone. They said the investigators were trying to establish if a call was made on the basis of location and time recorded on the CCTV footage. One should realise that a GSM tower gives an estimate of over four lakh calls every minute in a 7-km radius while a CDMA network will record calls in a 20-km radius. It is yet to be verified if the person found making the call is also a suspect, giving cover to the actual planter (of the bomb), an investigating officer said.
Singh said the investigators had not got sufficient information for drawing sketches of the suspects. He said there was a camera inside German Bakery, but it was focused on the cash counter. We have questioned more than 30 suspects till now. But nobody has been arrested, he said, adding that he did not have any confirmed reports on detention of any person from Karnataka in connection with the bakery blast case.
Singh urged the autorickshaw drivers who were present near the German Bakery at the time of the blast to contact the Crime Branch officers and share whatever information they have with the police. Those autorickshaw drivers who had dropped any passenger in the German Bakery area before the blast could share their details with the police over phone: 020-26208295.
Asked if the government has approved the proposals of Pune police for purchase of security equipment,Singh said,Its a wake-up call for all.
