Even as the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Act is now in place,interim PFRDA chairman Yogesh Agarwal on Wednesday resigned from his post.
The department of financial services,ministry of finance has informed that Yogesh Agarwal,chairman PFRDA has demitted office of the interim PFRDA on the forenoon of 13 November,2013, said an official release.
As a temporary arrangement,Anup Wadhawan,joint secretary in the department of financial services has been given concurrent charge of the interim PFRDA. Appointed on June 7,2010,Agarwal had another one and a half years left at the PFRDA. Yes,I have put in papers. I will not comment on reasons, he said.
Agarwals sudden exit comes after he was excluded from the selection committee to appoint two whole-time directors of the PFRDA. He had said he did not know why he was excluded from the panel.
Agarwal did not respond to attempts to reach him. Sources said he had chosen to resign as PFRDA has now got statutory status after the passage of the PFRDA Bill.
