The Congress government in Kerala would implement a new pension scheme for MNREGS workers,who have completed 100 days of work in a year. This was announced in the budget presented in the assembly on Friday.
Finance Minister K M Mani said the pension would be contributory in nature,with the financial support of state and central governments. Accordingly,the state would contribute Rs 1,000 as its annual share,while Rs 1,000 from the central government’s Swavalambhan Scheme would be deposited for the pension. The workers would have to contribute to the scheme. On completion of the age of 50,workers would get a monthly amount as pension in proportionate to the total deposit in their pension fund.
Besides,the budget has increased the pension for various weaker sections in society with a maximum hike of Rs 200. The journalist monthly pension was increased from Rs 4,500 to Rs 7,000 and their housing subsidy would go up from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Individual farmers have been exempted from the ambit of agricultural income tax.
Not right time to repeal AFSPA in J-K: Army Chief
The time is not right for the AFSPA to be repealed from Jammu and Kashmir and any decision taken in this regard should not be politicised,Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh said on Friday in the backdrop of demands to withdraw the controversial law from the state.
We only make recommendations. If I was to be asked,I would say that the time is not right at the moment to tamper with this enabler Act. We should not take away AFSPA at this juncture, he said.
