Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has called for a massive crop diversification in order to make the best of the typical agro-climatic conditions in the Northeastern region.
Pawar, who was inaugurating the two-day Northeast agriculture ministers conference in Gangtok, also said the region held tremendous potential in the agricultural front on account of its fertile lands, abundant water resources, dependable rainfall and vast biodiversity.
However,in the context of the trend of single crop cultivation in the region,he suggested the need to adopt crop diversification to suit agro-climatic conditions of the region.
