PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel was cremated with his son Dinesh at his native village Nandeli in Raigrah district on Monday morning. Both were killed with 22 others in one of worst ever Maoist attacks on Saturday. Governor Shekhar Dutt,Chief Minister Raman Singh,Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi were among those present at the funeral.
Former minister Mahendra Karma was also cremated in his native village Faraspal,Dantewada. No leader,not even Dantewada MLA Bheema Mandavi,was present at the funeral,attended mostly by his relatives and residents of nearby villages. The other deceased,all Chhattisgarh residents,were cremated at their respective native places.
Later in the evening,Karmas relatives approached the police that they are receiving threats from the Maoists. Subsequently,the chief minister announced Z Plus security for Karmas family,and Z security for Patels.
Singh also sought to set aside the controversies that have surfaced after the incident and said: This is not the time to indulge in blame game. Instead,we should share each others sorrow and face the situation with courage and patience.
The governments Vikas Yatra and the Congress Parivartan Yatra have been suspended for indefinite period.
Meanwhile,police suspect that some top Maoists are behind the attack as local cadres could not have carried out such a massive assault.
