Parliament for ceremonies only: Panel to examine

The panel will send its recommendation to Urban Development Ministry,which may send a note to the Cabinet,which will take a final call.

Even as a number of MPs are opposed to a new Parliament House,the high-power committee to be constituted by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to examine the matter will look into the possibility of shifting Parliament to a new building and utilise the present building for ceremonial occasions only.

Lok Sabha Secretary General T K Viswanathan said Kumar will consult the Vice-President,who is the Chairman of Rajya Sabha,on the issue during the Monsoon Session.“The issue has been held up due to the Vice-Presidential election,” he said.
