Park Street re-run: Minor girl raped inside taxi

According to the police,the incident took place late on Sunday when one Mohammed Anwar,a taxi driver known to the girl,along with another taxi driver,dragged the victim into their vehicle and took her to the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai street where they took turns raping her inside the vehicle.

Police Monday arrested Anwar while his accomplice is absconding.

The incident is reminiscent of the Park Street rape in February 2012,when a mother of two children was raped in a moving car by five youths who had befriended her in a bar. She was later thrown out of the vehicle.

While the prime accused in the case is still absconding,the woman had in June this year had revealed her identity in public saying she was tired of being referred as Park Street rape victim. I have been a rape survivor. Why should I be ashamed and hide my face?, she had said while participating in protest march against the rape and murder of a college student in Kamduni village.

The latest incident of heinous crime against women comes a day after a 12-year-old girl was raped and a rod pushed through her throat in an attempt to kill her in states Malda district. The 27-year-old accused in the case has been arrested.
