J&K police have arrested three persons, including a Pakistani teenager who was allegedly returning home across the international border after staying at Hariyachak in Kathua district for two and half years. Police suspect their role in the September 26 twin attacks on a police station at Hiranagar and an army camp in Samba that left 10 people dead.
Significantly,Hariyachak is the same place near the international border where three armed fidayeen from Pakistan had hijacked an auto at a gunpoint before heading to Hiranagar and Samba to carry out the attacks.
The two others arrested included a local,Hassan Din alias Noon, who had provided shelter to the Pakistani boy and a middle-aged man who too is suspected to be a Pakistani national.
The 15-year-old has been identified as Imran,a resident of Jalochak village in Sahiwal district in Pakistan. He was detained by BSF personnel while he was allegedly heading towards the international border on Sunday. After preliminary inquiries,he was handed over to police for questioning.
Kathua Superintendent of Police Mohan Lal said after crossing the border Imran had been staying at the residence of Hassan Din and worked as his domestic help. The locals knew him as Raju of Uttar Pradesh. Hassan Din also allegedly provided him with fake identity papers.
Lal said Imran told police that he crossed over to India looking for jobs to maintain his family of 11 and a career in Bollywood.
The another suspected Pakistani national was detained by Territorial Army personnel during searches in the area as he failed to tell them about his antecedents. He does not appear to be of sound mind, Lal said.
The questioning of both Hassan Din and Imran is in progress, the SP said. Imran was taken to the border on Monday to identify the spot from where he had sneaked into the Indian territory two and a half years ago.
Though police are yet to come across any evidence about their role in the twin terror attacks, the arrest of Pakistani nationals has given credence to the BSF theory that terrorists had not sneaked into Kathua district from the international border, but they had reached Hariyachak from somewhere else.
