The Orissa government Tuesday put 14 of its 30 district collectors on alert following reports of depression over the north Andaman Sea about 1,350 km east-southeast of port of Paradip.

Special Relief Commissioner P K Mohapatra said the cyclonic system would intensify into a deep depression and further into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday. Prediction as of now indicates that the system may have its landfall on Orissa coast on October 12, he said. It was on October 29,1999 that a supercyclone had hit Orissa coast killing over 10,000 people.
