Leaders of the state BJP are seething over L K Advanis silence on corruption charges against the BJD government and his reported remark that he does not rule out an alliance with the BJD.
A day after Advani made the statement at a press conference in Sambalpur,Orissa, during his Jan Chetna Yatra, the state BJP on Tuesday convened an emergency meeting condemning the contention. All of us expected Advaniji to speak a few words on the scams and scandals in Orissa government. Many leaders, including state BJP president Jual Oram, are hurt and worried over Advanijis silence on Naveen Patnaik government, said party state vice-president Ashok Kumar Sahu.
BJP Legislature Party leader K V Singhdeo was equally unhappy.
Though senior party leaders like Anant Kumar,Ravi Shankar Prasad and others tried to convince Advani on the damaging prospects of his silence, the former deputy PM did not amend his way. All he said was: Delhi ho ya Cuttack bhrastachar ko ham bardast nahi karenge.
Sensing the mood in BJP,Advani cut shot his proposed press conference and intellectual meet in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday and flew back to New Delhi from Cuttack.
Senior BJP leaders said they were hurt by Advanis silence as it was the BJD that unilaterally called off the alliance in March 2009,just weeks before the state assembly and LS election. The impression has gone around the public that Advani is using the yatra to promote himself ahead of anything else. So he wants to be in good books of Naveen and is ready to overlook all excesses of BJD in last two and half years, said a BJP leader.
