As soon as he was posted as Director General DG of Civil Defence Headquarters,1977-batch IPS Shailja Kant Mishra applied for voluntary retirement. His retirement was due on June 27 this year.
Mishra,who was earlier posted as Power Corporation DG,put in his papers on Monday evening shortly after taking charge of the new post.
While Mishra refused to comment,Secretary Home Deepak Kumar told The Indian Express that the request for voluntary retirement by Mishra has been received and it is under consideration.
The BSP government had ordered a probe into the alleged scam in recruitment of constables during the Samajwadi Party government in 2005. Mishra had headed the committee and the then government had suspended 25 IPS officers including those of IG,DIG and SP ranks on the basis of the report of the committee. The government also dismissed 18,650 constables on Mishras report. The suspension of the IPS officers was revoked and the constables too got their job back following directives of the court.
The committee then also claimed incidents of sexual harassment of female candidates during the recruitment process. Mishra had been posted with the Power Corporation Ltd since 2008. The new government transferred him to Civil Defence Headquarters Monday morning. He took charge in the afternoon,but sent his request for VRS to the Home Department and DGP in the evening.
