Director General of National Security Guards has been empowered with the authority to ask any operator registered in the country to make its aircraft available to the Government during national emergencies. An order to this effect was released by the Home Ministry on Saturday,a day after the Government changed the rules to make this possible. The move is aimed at cutting down the kind of delays that happened during the Mumbai terror attack. It had taken the NSG commandoes more than seven hours to reach the spot, mainly because an aircraft to lift them from Delhi to Mumbai was not immediately available. In its order, the Home Ministry said the DG,or an IG authorised by him, would be empowered to requisition any aircraft located anywhere in the country if it was registered in India.
