The Khaplang faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim NSCN has expelled its founder chairman S S Khaplang from the top post,holding him guilty of removing the outfits armed wing chief and filling another senior post without consultation with its national assembly.
This comes as a major blow to the NSCNK,which has been on a ceasefire mode with the government since 2001,but not much headway has been made,in contrast to the progress of the peace talks between the NSCNIM the other faction and the Government of India.
The decision to impeach and remove Khaplang a Hemi Naga originally from Myanmar was taken at an emergency session of the National Tatar Hoho the national assembly of the outfit’s underground government called Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim held at Oking on Monday,said a press release issued by the outfit’s publicity wing at Dimapur.
Khaplang had removed self-styled General Khole Konyak from the post of commander-in-chief of the Naga Army apart from unilaterally filling up the vacant post of NSCN vice-chairman widely regarded as an undeclared position held by General Konyak without taking the national assembly into confidence,the press release said.
The NSCNK has,meanwhile,appointed General Konyak as its new chairman,reports from Dimapur,quoting sources in the outfit,said on Wednesday.
The press release said the arbitrary action of the chairman,who also ordered non-participation of GPRN/NSCN in the Naga political groups meeting of September 18,2010,and all subsequent Naga reconciliation meetings was thoroughly discussed by the ‘national assembly. He not only hampered Forum for Naga Reconciliations efforts to bring peace in the Naga homeland but also remained non-committal on all the burning issues… it added.
The press note also referred to Khaplang’s dictatorial and remote-controlled type of administration,which “overruled” the National Hoho resolutions of November 2009.
It was also pointed out that Khaplangs highly undemocratic and unconstitutional governance over the years had pushed the Nagas to a perilous path.
Khaplang,who had founded the NSCN along with Thuingaleng Muivah in the wake of the signing of the Shillong Accord of 1975 by a section of Naga underground leaders,had later split to form his own faction NSCN-K in 1988.
