A Congress legislator is in jail for allegedly morphing a photograph of the Lokayukta that shows him in RSS outfit, but the ruling BJP has now realised that it has a similar skeleton in the cupboard.
A publication of BJP-ruled Gwalior Municipal Corporation features a doctored photograph that shows mayor Sameeksha Gupta posing with former prime minister A B Vajpayee.
Guptas photograph has been superimposed on an old photograph featuring Vajpayee with another BJP mayor long ago. Gupta became mayor in 2009,and Vajpayee has not visited the town for the past five years.
Vajpayees nephew and former BJP minister Anup Mishra, who is currently MLA from Gwalior, publicly embarrassed his party on Wednesday by demanding action against the guilty, saying the act was unpardonable. Vajpayee never posed for this photograph,he said.
The Congress was quick to draw a parallel and questioned the governments inaction in the matter involving the BJP mayor.
The Gwalior episode came to light when the husband of Aruna Sainya, the former mayor who features in the original photograph, took objection. Devendra Sainya, who is now widowed, said the morphing was not proper.
Gupta admitted that her photograph with the former PM was not genuine but feigned ignorance about who was responsible for it.
Meanwhile, the Congress created a ruckus in the Assembly on the issue of arrest of its legislator Kalpana Parulekar claiming that the arrest was a breach of privilege.
The party said the episode (Parulekar waving Lokayuktas photograph before reporters) took place on the Assembly premises and the police had no jurisdiction to arrest her without taking the Speakers consent.
