In the news since CBI raids earlier this week in connection with the coal block allocations, the Abhijeet Group on Friday said there was no irregularity in the company’s conduct and operations and that it was surprised to know that an FIR had been lodged against its company Jas Infrastructure and Power Limited.

Company’s Group Director Arun Kumar Shrivastav read out a statement to the effect to the media in a hurriedly convened press conference and walked off without taking any questions.

“We are indeed surprised to learn through media that an FIR has been filed by the CBI. We are yet to receive a copy,” the statement said. “It is learnt through the media that in the said FIR it is alleged that the matter regarding earlier allocation of coal blocks to the group was suppressed by the company while filing application. That this disclosure would have hampered its chances of getting another coal block. This allegation is misconceived and misplaced.”

The statement said that the company had proposed to put up a power generation project and had sought a coal block. “It was found eligible in the 35th meeting of the (screening) committee and was allocated Mahuagarhi Coal Block jointly with another company CESC Limited with equal share of both,” the statement said. “The development of block and end-use power plant is being constantly monitored by the Coal Ministry,CEA and Coal Controller and regular reports are being submitted to these authorities.”

“The coal extracted from the block will be consumed at the under-construction 1,320 MW power plant at Banka in Bihar that will start production in 2014,” it said. “Thus, the principle objective behind allocation of the block is being fully met.”
